My favourite place to sketch people is the Subway (see:transit, not tubes of ‘food’) because it’s always a fun challenge to try to get a person’s character quickly, with no idea how long they’ll be there, and without letting on that you’re turning them into a cartoon.
From a technical standpoint it makes for really good lessons in conveying complex emotions economically. It also makes you feel a bit more connected with the myriad strangers in a big city, and the fact that they’re all the prime actors in their own lives.

By Aki Inomata, quite literally taking the hermit crabs ability for carrying their home on their back, the Japanese artist crafts architecturally inspired shells from plastic for the crabs, with miniature cities on them. I think another fantastic aspect is the transparency, how you can see the anatomy of the crab even when they withdraw is just fascinating.
